Creative Commons

My web site is now licensed under a Creative Commons License. Specifically, it is licensed under the Attribution-NoDerivs 1.0 Create Commons License. This form of licensing is designed to protect your copyrighted work while giving some users the ability to copy, display, and distribute your work. The various Creative Commons Licenses can also allow commercial use of your work and can allow modifications, if you choose. The license I chose allows users of my website, photos, and papers to distribute, copy, and display them as long as I am given credit for the work, the license is displayed, and the work is an exact copy.

Creative Commons is an interesting solution to many copyright problems that people are faced with. It creates an environment where the author of a work gets to retain the copyright but allows the users to help spread the work and the knowledge contained in it. For a better explanation on why Creative Commons is needed and how it is used, there is a great presentation on their web site titled “Get Creative”.
