Aliciana and I were excited to get to chaperon Gavin’s field trip to the Kumeyaay-Ipai Interpretive Center. We all learned a lot of about the historical daily life of our local tribe of Native Americans.

Our little scientist Gavin won first place in Turtleback’s science fair!

We are very proud of him and his hard work conducting the experiment, typing up the results, and putting together the board (with a little bit of help from Mom). I hope he continues to have a love of science as he grows up.

Gavin was awarded his first place medal for his science fair project during the Friday Flag school assembly. It was both “dress crazy” day and St. Patrick’s Day, which explains the unique fashion choices you see in the photos. Congratulations again to Scientist Bub!

Aliciana was on hand to take some photos of the Turtleback kids running in the Apex Fun Run.

The 3rd Grade classes sang a bunch of Broadway musical numbers for this year’s performance. Gavin did well up there in front of everyone, even though singing isn’t his favorite thing to do. The kids must have put in a lot of work all year long to memorize both the songs (9 of them!) and the movements.

The Turtleback kindergarten classes invited all their parents to have a nice picnic on the lawn by the school’s friendship garden. After everyone got settled in and ate some food, the kiddos performed a cute arrangement of songs they have been learning with Mr. Lee, their music teacher (playing guitar in the videos below).

It was a beautiful evening and they did a magnificent job! After the show, the parents got to visit and tour the friendship garden while the kids ran around and played.

A few of the songs they sang (sorry they are shaky):

Aliciana took some photos while helping out at Turtleback’s Field Day. It looks like all the kids (and teachers) had fun!

All the dads in the Room 5 family were invited to a Daddy Day celebration in the morning. Connor and the other Room 5 kids performed a cute play and sang us songs. Then we all got to go outside and enjoy a donut. Yummy!

My boys were super excited to start school, so they could see all their friends again. Gavin is starting 4th grade with Mrs Bivin. Connor is a big 1st grader and has Mrs Dastrup. I’m sure we are all going to have a great year!

The therapy dogs from Helen Woodward Animal Center visited the first graders on Remember Me Thursday, a day aimed at raising awareness about orphaned animals and pet adoption. Aliciana was on hand to take some photos of the kids and their furry visitors.

Every other year, the “Life Lessons Character Counts” after-school program is taught by Turtleback’s own ninja kindergarten teachers, Mrs Flinn and Mrs Stamp. Gavin has now completed the program three times, but this was Connor’s first time graduating from the program. Both boys had a blast!

I was stuck in training at my new job, so I didn’t get to attend the Halloween parade this year at Turtleback. Luckily, Aliciana was on hand to take pictures of all the kids and their teachers dressed up.

Our boys looked cute dressed up as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, two of their favorite MLB stars.

Connor and some of his buddies celebrating the 100th day of school with some crazy shirts. Connor had 100 robots stamped on his shirt… which took him and Aliciana quite some time to create.

I was on hand to help out at Connor’s Valentine’s Day party in Mrs Dastrup’s class. I also stopped in to say hi to Gavin, who was in the classroom across the hall.
